Hydration Hacks for Summer Adventures

July 7, 2025

The season of summer adventure is upon us! With the warmer weather comes a greater need for water, and Business Connect has got you covered. Here we’ve compiled a list of our best hydration tips and products to carry you through the season.

Don’t Wait to Hydrate

Feeling thirsty? There’s a good chance you’re already dehydrated. Effective hydration is consistent hydration. Try carrying a reusable water bottle with you whenever possible so you always have a supply to drink from regularly.

Enacting little habits such as taking a sip of water after every set in the gym, or setting a reminder to drink every 30 minutes while on a hot summer hike can be great ways to stay consistent and safe.

Schedule Your Summer Adventures Accordingly

Summer is the season of adventure, but with the warmer weather also comes the risk of seasonal health threats such as heat stroke or sunburn. Planning ahead can make all of the difference in keeping yourself safe and hydrated this summer.

Plan high intensity adventures for the cooler hours of the day such as the early morning or later in the evening. Laid back and/or indoor activities are a great option for midday when the sun is at its strongest.

Other factors such as clothing can make a big impact in keeping yourself regulated. Opt for clothing that is both light in color and weight to help fight off the heat.

Carry Smart

It’s no secret- water weighs a lot. With the risk of being bogged down, many opt to carry less water than is ideal for proper hydration. Wanting to travel lighter shouldn’t mean cutting back on the essentials- it means you should carry smarter! A portable water filter system such as the Puribag Adventure Bladder is a great way to lighten up your pack load. This product allows for onsite filtration of freshwater sources, meaning you can leave your own water at home.

Another on-the-go filtration option is the Delta Emergency Water Filter– a pocket-sized funnel style filter that weighs less than 4 oz. Aquatabs is an even lighter weight option, a small tablet which effectively kills harmful microorganisms in fresh and still water in just 30 minutes.

Not All Liquids Hydrate Equally

It may seem counterintuitive, but some of the liquids you’re consuming might actually be dehydrating you. Popular beverages such as coffee and alcohol, as well as sugary drinks like sweet tea and soda all contain dehydrating ingredients. While these drinks are all safe to drink in small amounts, you might want to consider cutting down on the amount you drink of them in the summer in favor of consuming more water.

Flavor Your Water

Getting tired of the taste of your water? Find ways to add new flavors! It can be as simple as adding some lemon slices to your bottle, or mixing in a packet of flavored electrolytes.

The Osmo Seal & WaterDrop are portable hydration pouches that not only filter your water- but transform it into a grape or orange flavored sports drink. These portable water filter systems are also a great way to carry water while hiking since they can be used to filter all kinds of water- even saltwater!

Not only is incorporating these ingredients into your water supply a great way to make your drinks more interesting, these additions add an extra boost of electrolytes and other vitamins and minerals.

Get Water Other Ways

Hydration doesn’t have to come in liquid form. Lots of fresh produce is rich in water content making it a great way to boost your water intake. Some great examples of water-dense foods include melons, bell peppers, grapes, berries, and cucumbers. Hydration Gels are also an option. Our favorite is the Aqua-Gard– a flavored gel pouch meant to hydrate with great efficiency. As an added bonus- many of these foods are also a great way to get electrolytes! Consider packing some of these options as snacks next time you head out on an adventure.
